Wet Work

Who, me? A cult favorite?

Heavy rain, dark sky, many deadlines, very little time for blogging.

But if you're planning to stay in and watch a DVD over the weekend, I'd go with "Imagine Me & You", an admittedly formulaic British rom-com that still manages to charm, thanks to a modestly clever script from director Ol Parker and lovely performances from Lena Headey and Piper Perabo, redeeming themselves for having wasted an hour and a half of our lives in "The Cave".

But the real highlight of the movie is Anthony Stewart Head, channeling Rupert Giles' drunken older brother as Perabo's dad.

I'm loving Head's post-"Buffy" embrace of eccentric, overplayed comic roles. He's great in this, and he was terrific as an evil alien headmaster in a recent episode of "Doctor Who"; now all we need is for someone to cast him as a Bond supervillain, and everything will be just peachy.

(Geeky sidenote: Yes, I've found a way to keep up with the second series of "Doctor Who". It's CBC's own stupid fault for delaying the domestic broadcasts. My wife's English; we're techno-pagans ... what did they think we were going to do?)

Anyway. Back to work. Hope you're all staying dry.
