Busy, Busy, Busy ...
The film festival continues to demand my attention, so I'm going to be away from the computer for most of the day ... here, however, is a small gallery of reviews for you to read while I'm out.
Theatrically:
"The Wicker Man": Remember how I was hoping Warner just didn't know how to sell it, and Neil Labute had made a masterpiece? Yeah, that would have been nice.
"Idiocracy": It can't be Mike Judge's cut, but it can't be much worse.
"The Quiet": Oh, shut up.
And on DVD:
"Friends with Money": Nicole Holofcener may just be making the same movie over and over again, but it's a really good one.
"Kinky Boots": One of the year's most mechanical, but Chiwetel Ejiofor very nearly saves it.
"Lost: The Complete Second Season": I love the show. The box is fun. But why there's a statue of Homer Simpson on the island, I have no idea.
Oh, and if you're looking for TIFF recommendations, may I suggest Bong Joon-ho's "The Host"? In addition to being the best giant-monster movie ever made, it's also a wicked cultural satire and a moving family drama. But, you know, mostly it's a giant-monster movie.
(I'm having image-posting problems again, so you have to imagine the people running away from the big scary thing just off-camera.)
