Suitably Amped

So, "Crank", in which poisoned hitman Jason Statham spends a day roaring through Los Angeles doing everything he can to keep his adrenaline levels up, thus retarding the progression of the toxic cocktail working its way through his body.

It's way fun. Here's my Metro review.

As I mentioned earlier this week, "Crank" is the exception to the Labour Day weekend rule -- it's a good movie being launched into theaters when, traditionally, nobody goes to the pictures and everything that's opening has been abandoned by its studio.

To demonstrate the rule, I point to Fox dumping Mike Judge's "Idiocracy" onto a handful of screens with no notice whatsoever -- not even an e-mail from the publicity department telling us the high-resolution art is now available -- and Warner unleashing Neil Labute's "Wicker Man" remake on an unsuspecting nation.

Remember how I was all hopeful that the Labour Day release date meant they just didn't know how to sell it? Well, um ... let's just say by the time Nicolas Cage is running around Summersisle in a bear suit, the hope had died.

Full review Tuesday, along with "Idiocracy", but if you're planning to see a movie this weekend, just see "Crank", okay?

Please?
