A Quiet Interval

The megaplex is weirdly quiet this weekend. Does everyone know that Hot Docs is sucking up all of my attention? Or is everyone else just staying out of The Circle‘s way? However it happened, I certainly appreciate the break, given what’s coming next month …

The Circle: Emma Watson and Tom Hanks star in Joseph Ponsoldt’s adaptation of Dave Eggers’ social-networking novel. That’s literally all I know; I’ve been avoiding plot points ever since this thing was announced. Late press screening, so I’m seeing it this afternoon. UPDATE: Well, that was pointless.

God Knows Where I Am: Jedd and Todd Wider’s heartfelt documentary about Linda Bishop’s tragic final years lands even harder now that America is trying to destroy Obamacare. All of this has happened before, etc etc.

Norman: The Moderate Rise and Tragic Fall of a New York Fixer: Joseph Cedar’s movie is as unnecessarily complex and affected as its title … though Richard Gere is really quite good in the title role.

Spark: A Space Tail: Aaron Woodley, who made the middling psychological thriller Rhinoceros Eyes, has reinvented himself as a director of CG animated adventures. That’s kinda cool, right?

Anyway, yeah. I’m very tired. How are you?
