And Now, the Blogging

Hello.

Or, more appropriately, hello again.

If you’re reading this, then you’ve read my final video column for Starweek, and you’ve probably read a few others before that, so I’d like to start by saying, very simply …

Thank you.

Thanks for being my reader. Thanks for letting me praise the stuff that I’ve loved, and thanks for letting me rant about the stuff that I hated, and thanks for telling me, on several occasions, that my column was the first thing you turned to in Starweek every Saturday.

And for the three or four of you who were kind enough to say my Starweek column was the only reason they got the Star on Saturday … well, feel free to cancel your subscription. (Hi, Mom.)

I’m hoping to resuscitate the column elsewhere in the not-too-distant future — syndication’s a possibility, but anybody with a newspaper is certainly welcome to contact me. And in the meantime, I’m still very much around; if you live in Toronto, Vancouver or Ottawa you can find me in the pages of Metro newspapers, and I’m still reviewing DVDs at Tribune Media Services’ entertainment site Zap2it.com .

Oh, and if you have Rogers Digital Cable, turn on channel 01; the odds are pretty good you’ll see me reviewing movies for Your World This Week. (If you see Vanessa Farquharson doing it, it’s my week off.)

And now I have this blog thing. This is version 1.0, and I’m still not sure what it’s going to be when it grows up. But I hope you’ll be a part of it. I hope you’ll help shape the conversation.

So, again, thanks for following the column, and thanks for coming here.

Thanks for reading, is what I’m saying.

  1. Onwards and upwards, Norman.

I’m thrilled to see you blogging. Even more happy to know that I’ll still be able to get my Wilner fix without having to worry about all the trees that died to provide our almost entirely unread Star subscription.

Your column, Doonesbury, and the Sudoku were really the only reasons we’ve continued getting the Star. We can now get all three of those things online, so you’ve personally helped save the rainforests.

    Splendid stuff.

    /m

  2. Hey, love the new place. Pass the popcorn.

  3. Hi Norman:

Sorry to hear that your column is ending, but glad to see that you are still plugging away. Keep those reviews and quips coming!

    Best Regards…
    John Charles

  4. Hey,

You may not remember me, I used to work at Bonanza in Forest Hill. GL getting another gig, and I’m looking forward to reading the blog. Mike Derbecker let me know about it.

  5. Glad to see you online.
What the heck is The Star thinking anyway? Are they just going to cut the video page completely?

  6. Howdy, comrade. Welcome to the interwebs. Your impeccably accurate reviews have long been the first thing I went for in the Saturday Star. I shall be sure to follow this blog and your posting on Zap2it.

  7. Pity about losing the Starweek gig; it was the only reason I picked up the magazine. But I expect this blog will be a good substitute.

  8. I know I’m a bit late on this, but I really miss your column in Star Week. I feel lost in the video store now. I hope to see you column in print again soon.

    Carolyn
