It’s Cold Out, But Hold Out

A Bad Boys movie and a CG-heavy Robert Downey Jr. children’s adventure open this week, so we know it’s still January. But there’s some good stuff elsewhere. Don’t lose hope.

Bad Boys for Life: But will they ever learn? Nah. [Rad]

Clemency: Death-row drama trumps Just Mercy. [Rad}

Dolittle: Universal is having a lousy year. [Angelo]

Les Misérables: Victor Hugo, meet Ladj Ly. Cheers.

What She Said: The Art of Pauline Kael: A whole life, skimmed for time.

I also took a look at Armando Iannucci’s new HBO series Avenue 5, which is a lot of fun, and the new season of Netflix’ Sex Education, which has some issues but overall recaptures the weird energy of its initial run.

Oh, and while I’m not hosting this month’s edition of Secret Movie Club on Sunday — that honor goes to Robyn Citizen, who I’m sure will crush it — I understand it’s a good one, and you should go check it out if you’re able. 10:30 am at the Lightbox, with breakfast laid out an hour earlier. Just bundle up, okay?
