Fetish Objects

An image of Phillip Iscove.A still from Batman Returns.I don’t always do holiday episodes of Someone Else’s Movie, but when I do I try to make ’em special. (Getting Kristian Bruun hammered on fruitcake that one time, for instance.)

But this year, we all need a break. And Phil Iscove wanted to talk about Batman Returns, so that’s my Christmas gift to 2020 — an episode about one of the weirdest superhero movies ever made, one of the weirdest Christmas movies ever made, and one of the weirdest Tim Burton movies ever made. It’s a fun one.

Subscribe on Apple PodcastsGoogle Play and Stitcher and get the episode immediately, or download it directly from the web.

And then you can enjoy a couple of episodes of NOW What! On Friday, Kesley, Glenn, Rad and I assembled to discuss the most important Toronto stories of 2020, and in today’s episode I checked in with biostatistician Ryan Imgrund to talk about pandemic lockdowns, and why we aren’t in one yet. We had to record it last Thursday, without knowing exactly how Doug Ford was going to fuck everything up … but being pretty sure he would. This is a disaster, folks.

Anyway. I’m hunkering down for the duration, taking the next couple of weeks off, but I’ll still have stuff going up at NOW; check in when you can, and if you’re looking for something to watch before the holidays, here’s last Friday’s What to Watch column. That stuff is all still available! Isn’t technology amazing?

Come back on Christmas Day for NOW’s great big holiday movie podcast, and a bunch of reviews from me because I still do that somehow. Until then, stay home and stay safe.

  1. I am so sorry to hear about Dexter. I remember when you and Kate took him in. Good dogs (and cats) deserve good people, and it was always obvious from how you wrote about Dexter that he was well loved. You posting pictures of him always brought a smile. My condolences to you and Kate.
